maroma candle burning

I absolutely adored this candle from Maroma and whilst researching the brand to write this blog post I grew to love it even more! There is a lovely story behind the company as well as all the ingredients being eco-friendly and fair trade.

The company was launched by several young pioneers in the late 70s in Auroville, to help social and economic regeneration in the area. They started out making just 12 incense fragrances but have expanded to offer a complete range of home fragrances. On the social side of things, the company never employs women under the age of 18 and they prioritise those who stay in school to the 12th standard of education, encouraging young women to stay in education.

The candle itself smells musky, an Oriental sweet and spicy blend with notes of frankincense, rosewood, orange and clove. The scent fills the room delightfully and is a perfect Christmas scent. But the dealmaker is how pretty the candle holder looks when illuminated.
