Simply Bee – Cold Chest
It was great to meet the team behind Simply Bee UK at Spring Fair this year, and this encounter also served as a prompt for me to take their products out of my Biteable Beauty cupboard and do some writing about them! I was going to pack their skincare products as my trial for the two weeks we were cruising however as the moisturisers are water based they would not have been suitable. I did, however, pack one product, in case of illness – Simply Bee Cold Chest.
Simply Bee is a family business, that has grown organically over the past 40 years. They are located in a small town just outside Cape Town, South Africa. They only source their ingredients from renewable and plentiful resources and source all their ingredients locally, supporting local farmers and manufacturers. Their bees produce the key ingredients of Propolis and Beeswax in the range, that as you probably know have excellent antibacterial, anti-microbial, and anti-viral as well as healing properties.
Simply Bee Cold Chest is an extremely simple product, a natural alternative to Vick’s Vapour Rub. With an Olive Oil and Beeswax base (no petroleum as you would find in Vick’s!), this rub also contains Propolis – a wonder ingredient that I am a massive fan of, and Eucalyptus Oil. Eucalyptus Oil helps to open up your airways and chest when you have a cough or cold. This formula is very subtle – there’s no menthol in it as with most other chest rubs – so my first thought was that the product was not as effective as others. However, I could soon feel the Eucalyptus working its magic on my slightly congested nose and throat. On the last day of our cruise I picked up a germ on the ship, there did seem to be coughs, sneezes and colds going round and it’s the first hint of illness I’ve had all winter thankfully.
Due to the extremely short list of ingredients I would highly recommend this product for use on the whole family, and for those who require a bit more of a hit, why not try adding a drop of Menthol Oil to the product in your hands before applying, or use a steam bowl with several drops of Menthol in. A perfect body wash product to combine with this is Dr Bronner’s Eucalyptus Liquid Soap, or you could also try the Peppermint, both of which offer natural decongestant properties.
I’m looking forward to trying the rest of the skincare range out very soon – watch out for those reviews if you bee-lieve in the goodness from the hive!
