Say Aloha to the Aroha Antipodes Facial at Selfridges!
What’s that you say? An Antipodes Aroha Facial? At Selfridges?!
Regular readers of Biteable Beauty will know I am a massive Antipodes fan. The products I go back to time and time again include the Apostle Skin Brightening & Tone Correcting Serum, Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream (as favoured by Cara Delevingne!), Aura Manuka Honey Face Mask and Kiwi Seed Oil Eye Cream. If you’re a fan or have always fancied trying their products, I have some news for you! Antipodes are taking over the beauty rooms in the Beauty Workshop at Selfridges from this Sunday to Wednesday, so if you love beauty and are in town this weekend I suggest you get yourself booked in! You can book in store at Selfridges Beauty Workshop or call 0800 123 400. Appointments last 45 minutes and cost £35 – redeemable against purchase of any two Antipodes products (great for gifting, or just keep them for yourself!)
There are a few select spas and salons using their products (I’ve seen them at Appuru for instance) and I experienced a mini facial in Whole Foods Market Piccadilly when it had just opened (plus I’ve used the products in my at-home facials countless times!) so I know my way round the products pretty well. But there’s nothing like going for a facial with a qualified professional therapist. Not only do they know the tips and tricks for best results with the products but they also know how to relax and pamper you for an hour or so. You can just lay back and think about nothing for that short period of “me” time. I don’t have nearly enough of this sacred time at the moment, but when I was invited for a sneak preview of the Antipodes Aroha Facial with miri miri massage, how could I resist?! I’m going through an incredibly stressful time at the moment for various reasons, which is playing havoc with my usually clean and clear skin. I’ve had hormonal breakouts around my chin and neck line which thankfully I’ve just about managed to calm, so the facial could not have come at a better time!
The facial began, as most facials do, with the cleanse. The therapist selected Juliet Brightening Cleanser for me, read guest review of that product here. I love the fresh green apple and sweet cardamom fragrance of this product, and the combination of antioxidant-rich Vinanza Grape extract, vitamin C-rich New Zealand kiwi, hibiscus flower and antibacterial manuka honey work in synergy to help clear blemishes and balance oil.
Next up, exfoliation with Reincarnation Gentle Exfoliator. This creamy product is effective but gentle on skin. Formulated with anti-ageing avocado oil, jojoba beads, regenerative calendula oil and brightening carrot seed extract to remove dead skin cells whilst soothing stressed skin. I love the fragrance of this product – cedarwood oil (which also has anti-inflammatory properties) and sweet orange to uplift the senses.
Aura Manuka Honey Mask is the next stage in the facial. This is a godsend for all skin types, and I’ve heard people with acne rave about this creamy mask. The trouble is, often acne products in mainstream products focus on drawing out the oil which can dry out the skin, but many acne sufferers actually have dry skin. This mask helps address spots and blemishes whilst also nourishing the skin with nourishing avocado oil, pure vitamin E and antioxidant-rich pohutukawa extract. I’m mentioning fragrances rather a lot, but all the Antipodes products are blessed with out of this world scents. Aura smells like a dessert – combining vanilla and sweet mandarin.
On to probably my favourite part of facials, the massage! I have a tendency to carry a lot of tension around my jaw and in my cheeks, so the action of the healing hands of the facialist helps melt this build up away. The facial at Selfridges was no exception. The massage is based around a Maori tradition action called mirimiri and the technique is said to balance your physical and mental energy. To perform this, the therapist selected Divine Face Oil – a beautiful organic avocado oil and rosehip seed oil which has been scientifically validated and shown to stimulate the synthesis of collagen product in human skin cells by as much as 51%! This oil is a great option for tired, stressed and sun damaged skin, and my skin is definitely two of those three things at the moment! Everyone I’ve gifted this oil to LOVES it, it is like its namesake, divine!
Finally, and sadly, it’s almost time to go! To finish off the therapist applied the Kiwi Seed Eye Cream (use this every day and your fine lines and wrinkles really will diminish!) and Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream, which is great for dry skin types and has a beautiful vanilla fragrance. But there’s more to this cream than just the beautiful fragrance, there’s also powerful vinanza grape extract from Marlborough sauvignon blanc grape seeds, and rosehip oil and manuka honey! And there ended my facial, apart from the self-medicated spritz of Ananda Gentle Toner, which reawakened my mind ready to face the day.
My skin is looking SO much better post facial, so a big thank you to Antipodes. To find out when and where you can grab an Antipodes Aroha facial next, why not tweet Antipodes @antipodesnz
