I am always excited to discover new brands (not necessarily brand new, but new to me!). Indeed I’m not entirely certain how I stumbled upon this one, or they upon me. As the brand is based in Berlin I have a feeling I may have dipped into their parfum store whilst over there visiting friends, however I have no recollection of this occurrence. But then again, Berlin always is a good party….
Anyhow, I received an email in my inbox from Frau Tonis Parfum Berlin.
It was about their latest launch, 18 Bogota. The name Bogota intrigued me, and got me thinking of my time in South America (not that I’ve been to Bogota yet!) as well as my Colombian friends. The fragrance is not inspired by that Bogota, but Hotel Bogota, a place stooped in rich cultural history whose doors were sadly closed for the final time in 2013. The King of Swing Benny Goodman played his first European gig here. Jewish fashion photographer Else Neuländer-Simon based her studio here and taught the prolific Helmut Newton, whose provocative photography graced many a VOGUE.
Frau Tonis Parfum Berlin – 18 Bogota is a homage to Hotel Bogota, and like the creatives that rendezvoused there it’s a hotchpotch of fragrant notes that you would not typically associate with one another, but the end result is an exquisite bouquet. The blend includes Violet, Cedarwood, Indian White Pepper, Figs, Bergamot and Vetiver. The number given to the fragrance, 18, is a fitting nod to the thrills of adulthood.
Frau Tonis Parfum Berlin – 18 Bogota
is a unique fragrance suitable for both men and women to wear. Sadly, I was only sent a very small sample which I wore a couple of times before Mr BB picked up on the scent and declared that this parfum was very much to his liking. As he was out of EDT I did the good thing and let him have it! It’s such a sexy scent that I didn’t begrudge him too much. Plus it was nice to smell something new and different on him.
Prices for Frau Tonis Parfum Berlin – 18 Bogota start at €22 for 8ml and go up to €90 for 100ml, which is around £70 at time of writing. Which for a high quality perfume I think is a reasonable cost, comparable to the mainstream “designer” fragrance price points, only you won’t smell the same fragrance on anybody you pass on the street.
Frau Tonis are a naturally-inspired range, and as I’ve discussed several times quite recently I’m not adverse to synthetic fragrances being used as long as they are safe, and in particular phthalate-free. For more information visit frau-tonis-parfum.com
