Balmy About Beauty
I don’t know where I’d be without at least one beauty balm on holiday. This holiday you will see I brought four not including my BB Cream (which I didn’t use in the end. I had grand ideas of making myself up every night for dinner but in fact, the only time I put any slap on at all was the wedding night!)
Other than Spa Fabulous Bliss Cleanser the only cleansing product I would consider using is a balm. Your skin needs some tlc after a day in the sunshine so a cleansing product filled with nourishing oils and butters fits the bill just right.
This holiday, I was trying out Balmology Neroli & Sweet Basil Cleansing Balm.
The fragrance is very light and delicate. It describes itself as an “Aromatic Hot Cloth Cleanser” on the jar, and the aroma is unique. Upon first inhale, the Sweet Basil notes hit you, but breathe in a little longer and the Neroli reveals itself. There’s also hydrating Jojoba Seed Oil, nourishing Sweet Almond Oil, deep cleansing Castor Oil, anti-ageing Avocado Oil, Beeswax, and Vitamin E, that all-important skin antioxidant. I cannot fault this lovely balm. It’s the perfect consistency, melts on contact with the skin, and only a pea-sized dot is required to cover the face and neck. I use a double cleanse technique in the evening, once in the morning, along with a face cloth (fluffy never scratchy) run under hot water. You do have to be extremely thorough with the removal of the product, otherwise, you will be left with residue on your face, and be careful not to apply too much else it could take a while for you to get it off your face! Follow these rules though and you will be left with clean skin that already feels hydrated before you’ve moisturised!
Next up, Balance Me Stellar Face Balm.
I always always pack either this or Antipodes Saviour Skin Balm when flying long haul, as these balms help keep skin hydrated during flight. They also give a dewy finish which means even if you feel shattered at the end of the flight, your skin won’t show it. Read my full review of Balance Me Stellar Face Balm here
Botanicals Lavender Hand & Body Balm was my chosen balm for keeping the skin on my feet soft and smooth post their daily exfoliation on the beach.
This balm liquifies on contact with the skin. It feels at first as though it may leave a greasy residue, but I’m happy to say that provided you don’t apply too much skin is left feeling soft with just a subtle shine. Lavender fragrance in any shape or sized pot is instant relaxation to me. I will be adding this to my beauty ritual back in Blighty this summer. I think a relaxing lavender foot treatment is just what’s in order at the end of a long, hot summer’s day (yes, I’m optimistic that the good weather that the UK has been experiencing whilst we’ve been away is going to last a while longer!) The bonus with this product is if you do apply a little more you can administer a foot massage whilst moisturising your feet. In my sample pot, there’s Sunflower Seed Oil, Shea Butter, Apricot Kernel Oil, Calendula, Vitamin E, Chamomile and Jojoba Seed Oil. You can also smell the calmness of Chamomile in the balm, which is probably why since I received my product and after Botanicals rebrand (their new packaging is even better than before!) it’s been renamed Lavender & Chamomile Soothing Salve.
This balm is supposed to be a great aftersun moisturiser too, however, such is my obsession with slathering oils over my skin post a day at the beach I didn’t get round to trying the balm out as an aftersun. Perhaps next time!
Finally, for those patches that are susceptible to drying out in the sunshine (I’m looking at you shoulders and shins!) I utilised
Odylique by Essential Care’s Calendula Balm.
An ultra-rich balm that hydrated dry skin whilst also creating a protective barrier to allow skin to renew. It contains a concentrated blend of healing Calendula and Chamomile along with moisturising Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Beeswax and Olive Oil. The scent is a gorgeous blend of Sweet Orange and Neroli (Bitter Orange Flower) Oil, the two dance beautifully around each other giving a simultaneously sweet and sour aroma, like the taste of sour sweets. This balm absorbs incredibly easily into the skin and leaves it feeling smooth, soft and with a subtle sheen.
